Learning to Play, Playing to Learn

Inspired By Passion
“As a young kid, I would watch my older brother learning how to play the piano and taking lessons with Mrs. Kuo, and I remember being amazed at how such great melodies could be created by just pressing a few keys. I, too, wanted to be able to play the piano, and so I decided to take lessons with Mrs. Kuo as well, and I don’t regret it. ”

KELLIE CHUNG

Reflection from Yunna Chung - Kellie Chung's Mother

Kellie was an ambitious, albeit fledgling, pianist. Our previous piano teachers couldn’t teach Kellie to the depth we were looking for. That’s why we’re so glad to have found Mrs. Juliana. Mrs. Juliana has changed not only Kellie’s technique in piano but also her view on music itself. What sets Mrs. Juliana apart from other piano teachers is her attention to detail. The smallest things make the biggest differences in piano, and Mrs. Juliana is well aware of this. It’s incredible how much Kellie has improved after all those little fixes. She’s enjoying playing piano much more and once she’s gotten used to the technical side of things, she gets to pour her emotions into her music. Lessons with Mrs. Juliana are always engaging and informative: Besides instructing Kellie on how to play the music, Mrs. Juliana provides interesting tales on the background of the piece and composer, which always enlightens Kellie on how to play the piece better and more expressively.

Students' Reflections

What Our Students Say About Us

5/5
When I first heard the sound of the piano, I fell in love. The crystal clear melodies rung through the hall and immediately I knew I had to play this instrument. The piano became my source of happiness, as well as a place to vent my feelings. I found a solace on the piano bench and it never failed me. It frustrated me at times when I couldn’t play the difficult runs, but after hours upon hours of grueling practice I was always elated when the piece finally came together.

I am forever grateful to Juliana for mentoring me in piano, and for developing my passion for music. Without her I would have quit long before high school ended, not having the capacity to continue learning about music. I wish her a successful transition to her new home, and hope she continues to inspire students there as she has here.
4.9/5
I have lived in 4 different countries, and moved around countless times. The one thing that I have always kept with me is my love for music and piano. It is something that I will never let go of, and will continue to practice and learn even in my college years. I would like to thank Juliana for all she has done for me, including college recommendations and helping me increase my vocal accuracy and range in singing. I will be sad to go, but will remember my experiences here, and keep my passion for music alive forever.
5/5
In high school I became interested in other genres of music and decided to branch out: I joined a Jazz Combo, Chamber Choir, and Show Choir -all of which had completely different kinds of music than what I was used to. But I realized that I was learning all of it so fast, so easily. It was because I was applying the tools gained from Juliana’s piano lessons.
